One of the features people ALWAYS ask about in mobile phones is the camera, as in 'is it any good', 'which is the best camera phone', and so on. Well, today. I'll take a look at the two contenders for best camera phone in the world: the Sony Ericsson K850i and Nokia N82.
Sony Ericsson K850i - Cyber-Shot Supremo
Ericsson where amongst the first people to realise the importance of mobile phones with cameras built in, even before they joined with Sony. Now, as Sony Ericsson, they have taken the market for camera phones to dizzying new heights. There was a certain inevitability that one day, a Sony Ericsson camera phone would be released with the Cyber-Shot name emblazoned a cross it, and although the first one to do so, the K800i, set a benchmark, it's time, today, to look at its direct descendant, the Sony Ericsson K850i.
So, in a big, wide world of mobile phones with cameras built in, what sets the K850i apart? Well, as mentioned, it features the patented Cyber-Shot technology to make taking awesome, pin-sharp photos as easy as pie. So, courtesy of Sony Ericsson, you get some really nice lenses, image stabiliser and anti-shake (believe me, this is a MASSIVELY good thing!) and a xenon flash for superb night shots. It really is a proper Digital Camera, built into a mobile phone, and I'll tell you something, it's going to be hard to top it!
Nokia N82 - life through a lens
Well, let's see how well the Nokia N82 stacks up against its rival. And... well, let's not beat about the bush, the N82 doesn't just stand up to it. This fantastic Nokia kicks the Sony Ericsson's behind in every way! First up is the camera, and whilst both of them weigh in at 5 megapixels (and despite the other's Cyber-Shot pedigree), two things make it a victory for the Nokia. First is the fact it has Carl Zeiss lenses, recognised as some of the best in the camera business. Second is the flash, a xenon flash that drowns out the Sony's (already quite bright) flash, utterly. It really is on a different level altogether.
But it's all the other bits in the N82 that let it win over the Sony Ericsson. The K850i may have a great camera, but it just can't compare to the other features of the N82 that Nokia have squeezed in; things like GPS, an awesome music player, and all the organiser gubbins you'd expect of a true smartphone to have. And whilst it pains me to say this (being a Sony junkie), in the war between these two mobile phones, it's the Nokia N82 that wins.
