Saiga or SKS?
I've asked similar questions before, but just wanted to get some more opinions before purchasing one. I can get a Saiga 7.62x39mm rifle for about the same price as a refurbished Russian SKS. Which one should I go with?
and if I get the Saiga, should I go with the 16" or 20" barrel? (For the brush I hunt, the 16" would be better, but how much accuracy would I be sacrificing?)
If you can get a Saiga for SKS money, get the Saiga! While the SKS is a fine rifle for what they are, the Saiga will do everything the SKS will but still have a higher capacity and the ablity to reload with extra magazines. The SKS uses stripper clips and even tho with practice you can reload pretty fast, you're still limited to just 10 rounds per reloading. Sure you can buy an aftermarket stock and aftermarket magazines for the SKS to make it work with detachables, but the Saiga comes ready for detachables.
Get the Saiga if it costs the same as an SKS.
