What is a good compact big-zoom camera? Canon Powershot S3 IS or Sony DSC-H2?

I'm looking for a small compact one, with a zoom up to around 250mm (using 35mm equivalent) and decent image stablization (or the big zoom will be useless). Any thoughts about the Canon Powershot S3 IS or Sony DSC-H2? Or if you have some recommendation of other similar camera, I'd like to hear your thoughts/experience too. Thanks!

I have used several canon and sonys before, and have compared the outputs of both, and Canon output in general tend to have better image right out of the box without too much post processing. Especially on these big zoom cameras, I tend to see just so slightly more purple fringing and false hues with the Sonys. Having said that both cameras are great choices, given that dpreview.com gave both a "highly recommended" review, and both costs below $400, which is great!

At this price point you really can't go wrong with either, but do take a look at the Panasonic FZ50, if you are willing to spend a bit more. "to sum up; for the serious user the FZ50 is without doubt the best equipped, best specified and best handling 'bridge camera' on the market today, and under the right conditions it produces superb output"
