Which of these scopes is the best?

I am looking at getting a browning x-bolt hunter in .270 win. I was wondering which of these scopes others people would think is the best or at least which one would be the best brand. First is the Leupold Rifleman 4-12x40mm second is the Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40mm and third is the Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40

I was recently at the store looking for a new, reasonably priced scope and my list was either the Leupold VX-1 or Rifleman, and the Nikon Prostaff.

If you compare:
You will see that the Leupolds are better finished than the Nikon Prostaff, and don't use any exposed screws.

Clarity is comparable.

The magnification ring on the Nikon is easier to turn. "Lower priced" Leupolds are usually very stiff.

Leupold has a better warranty.

Nikon Prostaff is less expensive than even a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40, but you are looking at a Leupold 4-12x40. The Nikon will be $100. cheaper than the Leupold 4-12x.

The Leupold Rifleman 4-12x40 is actually lighter and shorter than the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40.

Of the three that you have listed, this is the order of which I'd buy:

1. Leupold Rifleman. Most magnification, best finished, best warranty.

2. Nikon Prostaff. A good scope, and the best value.

3. Bushnell Trophy. I wouldn't even consider it, although I'm sure it is decent. Don't put steel wheels on a nice car...for example.
